Xfinity Mobile Review

After switching to Comcast’s Xfinity Mobile, a low-cost wireless provider using Verizon’s network, mobile phone rates have become much cheaper.

A few months after the quiet launch of Xfinity Mobile in 2017, I signed up for an affordable wireless plan and generally paid $ 12 a month for taxes and fees of $ 15 a month.

In this post, I’ll review everything you need to know about Xfinity Mobile if you’re thinking of creating a switch. First, we’ll answer the most frequently asked questions after the first posting of Xfinity Mobile reviews and related YouTube videos.

XFINITY Mobile Quick Facts

Comcast is an affordable mobile phone service available to Internet customers.
You can access Verizon’s network and millions of Xfinity Wi-Fi hotspots.
The shared data plan starts unlimitedly from $ 12 / month per month to $ 45 / month.
BYOD has been expanded to select Android or to buy something new from Xfinity Mobile.
As an Xfinity Mobile customer, there are no major complaints. Keep reading the pros and cons!

Here are some things to know before you sign up for Xfinity Mobile:

Xfinity Mobile Plans & prices

Verizon’s postpaid unlimited data plan ranges from $ 70 to $ 90 for a single service line. Xfinity Mobile uses Verizon’s tower and charges about half of the price, but it doesn’t offer any special benefits like the free Disney + year offered by Verizon.

Xfinity Mobile can access unlimited national calls and texts, no activation or line access fees for up to 5 lines, and 19 million Wi-Fi hotspots. Xfinity Mobile’s new data planning options, which went into effect in August 2019, include:

  • Unlimited: $ 45 per line per month and no limit on monthly data usage (speed reduction after 20GB)
    Performances: 1GB = $ 12 / month, 3GB = $ 30 / month and 10GB = $ 60 / month; If you exceed the amount you
  • choose, pay $ 12 per GB. No rollover data
  • The $ 45 unlimited plan per month is offered one per line, but plans per performance can be provided in one line, or you can share data across all lines in your account. Taxes and fees are added to all plans.

Unfortunately, Xfinity Mobile has removed 100MB of free data provided each month to new customers. Changes went into effect as the second generation plan began in August 2019. Existing customers will lose 100MB of free data in February 2019 and will transition to a second-generation plan.

Eligibility Requirements

To sign up for the service, you must be an Xfinity Internet customer, so Xfinity Mobile is unlike any other mobile virtual network operator (MVNO). If you have had a lot of problems with Comcast cable or the internet in the past, you can understand why you don’t want to consider this service. I was willing to take risks. Is there no Comcast in your area? Unfortunately, you cannot use mobile coupons. Consider services like Visible instead.

After signing up for Xfinity Mobile, you can still use Xfinity Mobile if you go later or cancel the Xfinity Internet for other reasons. However, a $ 20 / month fee per line is added to the bill. Learn more here. Obviously, if you maintain the Xfinity internet service, you will not be charged. It will only be evaluated if you decide to discontinue that service later and keep Xfinity Mobile.

Flexible data planning

Here’s what I really like about Xfinity Mobile’s services: Many other mobile phone plans offer, use or lose 2 GB or 5 GB of data at a set price per month. However, Xfinity Mobile gives you the option to pay 1 gigabyte of data at a time.

For example, you can choose a 1GB plan and pay $ 12 a month. If you need 2GB of data, you just pay an extra $ 12. But if you need more data and $ 30 for a 3GB or $ 60 for a 10GB plan, switch to it. You can change your plan during the billing cycle. Of course, many people don’t want to worry about checking data usage throughout the month. They may prefer an unlimited plan of $ 45 per month.

My suggestion: Start with the By the Gig plan and see how it goes. If you use too much data, you can switch to unlimited plans at any time. There are no penalties for switching back and forth between plans.

XFINITY MOBILE VS. Verizon Data Feed

One of the reasons I left Sprint on Xfinity Mobile was because of Verizon’s network. RootMetrics consistently maintained the highest level in the country and followed AT & T. I read a story about how Verizon can slow down MVNO’s data usage, but this is not my experience.

I downloaded Speedtest with the Ookla app and tested the Xfinity Mobile download speed 10x. It’s really fast whenever the download speed is between 40Mbps and 70Mbps! In fact, Comcast is much faster than Xfinity Mobile customers expect. 4G LTE network: typical download speed 5-12Mbps and upload speed 2-5Mbps.

According to Verizon’s website, 4G LTE wireless broadband can handle download speeds between 5 and 12 Mbps (megabits per second) and upload speeds between 2 and 5 Mbps, with a maximum download speed of 50 Mbps.

Mobile hotspot

Mobile hotspots are included with Xfinity Mobile at no additional cost. This allows you to connect to the Internet using mobile data.

For example, I tested this feature when I need to use a computer while traveling where there is no Wi-Fi. According to Xfinity Mobile’s website, using the 4G LTE for hotspot-based devices requires the By the Gig plan ($ 12 per GB). The rate for unlimited plans is limited to 600 Kbps.

  • Performance planning: 4G LTE mobile hotspot speed
  • Unlimited plan: 600Kbps mobile hotspot speed

Translation: Unlimited option allows you to read emails and browse the web, but buffering may occur when streaming videos or music. There are no speed limits in the By the Gig plan. Temporarily switch to the Unlimited plan to enable mobile hotspot functionality and better review the Xfinity Mobile service.

Despite what Xfinity Mobile warned on its website, it streamed video without buffering and watched the entire show on a laptop powered by a mobile hotspot. There are no additional charges for the mobile hotspot feature, but if you use the By the Gig plan, the data you use will count towards your monthly data rate.

Video streaming

Some of Verizon’s postpaid unlimited plans allow HD-quality streaming but are not guaranteed on Xfinity Mobile. As of August 2019, Gig defaults to HD resolution (720p for phones and 1080p for tablets), and the default for unlimited is the standard resolution (480p). Gig users can turn on the data saver to watch videos in standard definition. That’s what I suggest.

Meanwhile, unlimited plan users can add HD Pass to buy 720p on their phones and 1080p on their tablets for $ 20 per month. While using Xfinity Mobile like Netflix, Hulu, and YouTube, I have streamed a lot of videos from my smartphone and had no problem with the video quality.

Tip: To save money and watch videos in HD, you can always connect to Wi-Fi at home, work, and whenever possible. Data used over Wi-Fi is not included in the plan’s data limits.

Phone & text performance

I’ve had a lot of experience with Verizon’s network in the past, so I wasn’t worried about Xfinity Mobile’s phone and text performance. Xfinity Mobile runs on Verizon’s network, so the coverage map is very similar to the service for Verizon’s postpaid service. The difference is that Xfinity Mobile also has millions of Wi-Fi hotspots. Take a look at the coverage map below.

  • Xfinity Mobile coverage map
  • Verizon range map

The biggest feature is that Xfinity Mobile supports VoLTE (Voice over LTE), so you can send and receive data at the same time. Wi-Fi calls have also been extended to all devices except some.

Phone Selection

The latest iPhone and Samsung devices make up most of the phones in the 20s that Xfinity Mobile sells online and in stores, but there are several options for less than $ 200. Xfinity Mobile allows you to bring your selected Android to the network. This includes Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus, Unlocked iPhones are also compatible. Samsung’s compatibility is important because Xfinity Mobile has long been a promise. Now finally!

Customer service

I set up the Xfinity Mobile service without going to the store and had no problems getting started. There are many FAQ pages within the app where you can answer questions about service settings, data plan changes, billing, and more. You can also contact customer service via text, Facebook messenger, and phone with estimated wait time. Xfinity Mobile’s customer service number is (888) 936-4968.

Xfinity Mobile customer service latency listed in the app

The first time I had to contact Xfinity Mobile customer service was when the Samsung Galaxy S8 suddenly broke down. I went to the Xfinity Store and couldn’t replace it immediately, but mailed a new phone the next day. There was no extra money coming out of the pocket because the lifespan of the phone is less than a year and it is still under warranty.

The second time you call Xfinity Mobile is asking if your Samsung Galaxy S8 is locked or unlocked. Obviously locked. Xfinity Mobile paid for it, so they unlocked the device without any problems.

Final words about Xfinity Mobile

Saved a lot of money in 2 years with Xfinity Mobile! Visible and Total Wireless offers mobile phone service plans that run on Verizon’s network, but Xfinity Mobile can be cheap for light data users. With Best Budget Phones, plan, you can expect compromises, not Xfinity Mobile.

When the internet promotion fee expired, I called Comcast’s customer retention department, and worked with me on pricing. I ended up extending the $ 52 internet package a month a year.

I did my best to provide a detailed review of my experience with Xfinity Mobile and what to expect. Hope this review will helpful for you.
